I couldn't remember having a security blanket when I was Jake & Laney's age. So I called my own Mommy and she confirmed that I didn't have one. She said I was a pretty secure baby and toddler. I do remember a blanket that was on my bed. I'm sure everyone had one. It was finished with a soft satin edge. I remember rubbing the soft edging between my fingers as I drifted off to sleep. But I never carried it around with me. Not like Jake & Laney with their Bunny & Teddy. They don't go anywhere with out it! And for that very reason I have searched high and low for replacements. As a matter of fact one day not long ago I thought we lost Teddy. And as any loving Mommy would do, I panicked! I retraced my steps and drove back to the super market looking in the aisles of the store and the store's parking lot. Not finding anything I frantically started searching the internet for my holy grail. Shortly into my frantic search I found them on eBay for $40.00 each. Now, that's a lot of money but in my Mommy mind, $40.00 was cheap if it meant a calm bedtime or nap time! Mr. Hoity Toity thought differently! So after freaking out and arguing with Mr. HTB I went in to check on my prince and princess to find that Jake had Teddy the WHOLE time! FALSE ALARM PEOPLE! Thank God I didn't whip out my credit card and buy the over priced security...that let's face it...is more MY security than theirs! LOL
Fast forward 5 months. We're still golden when it comes to Teddy & Bunny. Teddy is missing his bow tie and I've had to sew Bunny's ears on once or twice. But they're still with us. They get "baths" once a week yet still stink. But we love them to no end. We even took them to our trip to Home Goods today and while we were in the baby section of the store I looked over to find, yep, you guessed it............................................A BRAND NEW TEDDY & BUNNY!!! FOR $5.00 EACH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JACK POT! RIGHT THEN AND THERE I WON THE SECURITY BLANKET LOTTERY! I quickly grabbed them and put them in my basket and ran to the check out counter to buy them. Once we got home it was time to try them out. I got everyone ready for their nap and handed Jake his Teddy (the new one) and he promptly handed it right back to me and said "NO!". I went out to the other room, picked up the old, stinky Teddy with the missing bow tie and handed it to Jake. Who grabbed it, hugged it and settled down for his nap.
Milee is my first child to have a blankie. She has a full size (well baby size) blankie that is chenille like on one side and silky on the other. I have thought about trying to downsize her to a small square one but I haven't tried it yet. I may not have any luck since apparently our kids know more than we think they know :)
ReplyDeleteSo i am not a mom (yet), but i can only imagine how precious the blankies are! Glad you found it.
ReplyDeleteI think you should bury the new bunny and teddy in a hole in the back yard and leave it there until you really lose the real teddy. Dig it up, wash it and you'll be good to go.
ReplyDeleteI know I didn't have anything like that when I was a baby, but it sure is interesting and sweet that your babies/tots/kids are into it.
ReplyDeleteThe story is too funny, yain't raising no dummy!
