Baby Shower

Back in 2007 when I was as huge as a house, ready to pop, and ready to have a couple of babies my husband's Aunt and my great friend Kathy (Hi Kath!) threw me a baby shower! I so looked forward to my shower. I had waited my whole life to sit with all the women I knew and "ooh" & ahh" over every little item I would unwrap! I couldn't wait to see my friends, and family all assembled to watch me open the mounds of gifts I'd registered for (and some bonus gifts I hadn't). My baby shower was a magical day for me! And I hope that Kathy knows that ! I LOVED MY SHOWER!

It's funny how we really do go from wanting for ourselves to wanting for our children. There was a time when I wanted gifts. A new purse, a new pair of sunglasses. But the minute I found out I was pregnant (with twins no less) that all stopped. I wanted for them. I wanted to make sure they were clothed in the cutest outfits. I wanted them to have the best baby swing, the warmest blankets and of course, the coolest "ride" in town! I know, in a way, that it's still for me but it's for them.

That time was the happiest in my life. The anticipation of who these little people were. What they'd look like wearing those cute clothes, bundled up in those warm blankies and cruising around town in that double stroller pimped out with froggie & lion rattles hanging from their "rear view mirror"! I felt as if I were on top of the world. There was so much to look forward to. Their first bath, sitting up for the first time, their first smile. I couldn't wait!

Even though that's all in the past this is still the happiest time of my life, but in a new way. We've witnessed their first steps, their first movie (both starring in ~ Marley & Me and viewing), their first word. We no longer have babies...we have toddlers and they are quickly becoming kids! So for us that magical baby time is behind us but we are lucky enough to be welcoming a new baby into the family! NOOOOOO NOT ME! My sister~in~law, Candace, is expecting her 2nd baby (her oldest is 14) in September. So Kathy is in "Baby Shower Mode"! Making the decisions on the food, the cake (you can't eat a diaper cake, Kathy!) and the decorations. The registry has been completed and the baby is "cooking". Nostalgia has kicked in and part of me wishes it were Keith and I again but also happy it's not because we have so much more to look forward to with our own Monkey & Bug. And we are content with that for now.
